My name is Sakile Nia Carter. I’m ten years old and in the fifth grade. I am home schooled. I live in Virginia with my mom and three sisters (Aziza, Asha and Amira).
Now I’m going to walk you through my business life. When I was three years old I started selling hand held fans and ice cold drinks of water. I gave my mom 10% of every thing I made because she supplies all the materials for my products. I sold them in parks and my schoolyard. I sold the fans for fifty cents dollar. I made 20 or 25 fans a day and sold them every way I went.
When we moved to Virginia we lived in an apartment building. I continued to sell fans and also started selling soaps that we had bought, I have also sold stickers. When I was seven I joined LEGIT (Learning Entrepreneurs Getting It Together) and started my first business venture with them, I started selling donuts. I sold 25 boxes of donuts and I made $125. Now I am ten and I am on my second business, I sell soaps and skin care products that I make. I have made and sold more than 30 bars of soap. I have six different scents of soaps - vanilla, lavender, cucumber melon, almond, vanilla lavender and vanilla cucumber melon. I sell my soaps for one dollar and fifty cents.
Legit has taught me not only about business, it has thought me how to speak in front of large groups of people. Legit has taken me to places I might not have gone like the Black Entrepreneurial Conference, North Carolina Expo, City Council meetings and the former governor’s house. LEGIT has thought me how to give back to the community and world. It has thought me how to make a difference and how to speak up when I see something to make things better. I have made friends. I have learnt a lot of things from LEGIT.
